Matrimonial cake or (date square) is a popular known dessert in Canada, it's a loveable treat to be served on dates and wedding occasions most especially on this Easter season.
It's a better match for all season tho ☺️
Canadian Matrimonial Cake Ingredients:-
- 2 cups of dates, pitted and chopped
- 1¾ cups flour
- 1 cup packed brown sugar
- 1 cup butter
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup white sugar
- 1¾ cups large flake oatmeal
- ½ cup water
- 1 teaspoon lemon juice
Canadian Matrimonial Cake Directions:-
- In a medium saucepan, place pitted and chopped dates,water, sugar and lemon juice, crust and cook on medium heat for 10 to 15minutes until dates are soft and thickened, take of heat and set aside.
- Combine the flour,brown sugar, oatmeal, baking powder,salt. Mix well. Mix will crunchy. Spread half of mixture in a light greased 13×9 baking pan, then dab to press down well into corners. Cover the date mixture and spread equitably in 350 degrees for 35 minutes or until top becomes brown.
